Currency For a Cure

Donate your left over currency notes to the Cancer Council

Travelex in Brookvale and Wollongong in partnership with the Cancer Council have launched an initiative to raise funds to go towards a cure for cancer.

By donating left over currency notes you can help us raise funds for the Cancer Council. We will convert all valid notes to Australian Dollars and give this amount to the Cancer Council on your behalf. You will receive a tax invoice for all donations.

We are looking for all donations – big or small. Many of us have some left over currency lying around in a drawer from trips we took ages ago, why donate it before it goes out of date. For example if you only have a few dollars left from a trip to the US, some Egyptian Pounds that you didn’t manage to spend on souvenirs or the funds that you have left on your cash passport card that you didn’t quite manage to spend  - every donation counts. Anything we can convert to Australian Dollars we can donate – we can purchase over 50 currencies at present.

You don’t need to do the full amount you have – for example you might have 50 British pounds left but only want to donate 10 pounds and change the other 40.

We can also accept foreign currency cheques and traveller’s cheques – we just need to wait for them to clear before we donate the funds.

As we don’t charge any commission every cent will go to the Cancer Council.

For more information on the great work of the Cancer Council visit their website. Travelex in Brookvale and Wollongong are registered community fundraisers with the Cancer Council.

Our main collection method is in our stores but we also have options if you would like to have collections at an event you are running or at your business. See below for some ideas. If you wish to get involved please email us in Wollongong or Brookvale.

How does it work?

In Store

Bring your currency notes to our store in Brookvale or Wollongong and let us know that you would like to donate them to the Cancer Council.

We will check that the notes are valid and in date and issue you with a tax invoice for the amount that we change.

The converted amount will be donated on your behalf and you can use the tax invoice to claim tis amount when you do your taxes at the end of the year.

At Events / collections at Businesses

Place your currency in the envelope provided

If you want to receive a tax invoice fill out your details on the envelope.

Deposit the envelope in the collection box.

Once the collection is complete the organisers will take the envelopes to Travelex in Brookvale or Wollongong who will count your donation and email you a tax invoice.
