Foreign Currencies we trade in

Here is a list of the currencies we currently trade - by region. This list does change from time to time and is up to date as of 04/11/10. Whilst we trade in them we cannot guarantee their availability from our wholesaler (or the amounts that they will have), but they will usually have most of these currencies.

As of June 2011 we are now stocking Croatian Kuna.

We keep at least 30 of them on hand at all times .

Europe

Croatian Kuna, Czech Koruna, Danish Krone, Euro (see list of participating countries below), Hungarian Forint, Icelandic Krone, Norwegian Krone, Swedish Krona, Swiss Franc, Turkish Lira and United Kingdom Pounds (Includes Scottish and Northern Irish Pounds).

The following countries are currently using the Euro:

Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Vatican City. Lithuania is also joining on January 1 2010.

Africa

Egyptian Pounds and South African Rand.

Take small US Dollars for all other African countries. Euros are also favoured in Morocco. 

Australasia

Central Pacific Franc (see below), Fijian Dollars, New Zealand Dollar, Papua New Guinea Kina, Solomon Island Dollars, Tongan Pa'anga, Vanuatu Vatu and Western Samoan Tala.

The Central Pacific Franc is used in French Polynesia (Including Tahiti), New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna.

South and East Asia

Brunei Dollar, Chinese Yuan (sometimes called Renminbi), Hong Kong Dollar, Indian Rupee, Indonesian Rupiah (includes Bali), Japanese Yen, Malaysian Ringgit, Mauritian Rupee, Pakistan Rupee, Philippine Peso, Singapore Dollar, South Korean Won, Sri Lankan Rupee, Taiwanese Dollar, Thai Baht, Turkish Lira and Vietnamese Dong.

Please note that it has recently become prohibited for non-Indian residents to take the Indian Rupee into India. There are also restrictions on how much you can take in as a resident. More information is available here.

For other countries small US Dollars are the preferred foreign currency. This includes Cambodia, Laos and Nepal. 

The Americas

Argentine Peso, Bahamas Dollar, Barbados Dollar, Bermuda Dollar, Brazilian Real, Canadian Dollar, Chilean Peso, Mexican Peso and United States Dollars.

 

For other countries small US Dollars are the preferred foreign currency. Peru has it's own currency  - Peruvian Sol - but this cannot be sourced in Australia.

Middle East

Bahraini Dinar, Israeli Shekel, Jordanian Dinar, Omani Rial, Qatari Riyal, Saudi Arabian Riyal, UAE Dirham and Egyptian Pound.

Top Ten Currencies in 2010

To give you an idea of currencies that we have on hand here are our Top Ten selling currencies for this year. We always try to make sure that we have enough of these currencies to cover demand, if we do sell out there will definitely be some more coming in at most a day or two.

As you can see there are a lot of the same currencies that come up but there are some seasonal differences which we take into account when setting our stock levels.

This seasonality includes:

  1. European Summer
  2. Canadian Coach touring season 
  3. New Zealand Summer
  4. Japanese Skiing season
  5. Anzac Day (Turkish Lire)
  6. Sporting events (eg Soccer World Cup, Olympics, Bledisloe Cup in Japan)
  7. School groups (ideally we have contact with the group organiser in advance)
